Homestay Families

BRING THE WORLD TO YOUR HOME!

Friends from around the world!

Make an environmental impact from home by hosting an emerging environmental leader. EarthCorps international participants come from Bhutan, Bolivia and beyond to learn skills in environmental service.

“We thought we would be giving so much of ourselves. We never could have predicted how much we have received in return, how much richer our lives feel through knowing these young people”
- Steve Randels, EarthCorps Homestay

Make an environmental impact from home!

Flexible options: EarthCorps international trainees come to Seattle all year round. It is possible to join the homestay program at any time. A typical homestay commitment is 6 months, however overnight and multi-week options are also available.

“EarthCorps staff members are always available whenever I have questions. It’s comforting to know I have support 24/7”
-Jessie Dye, EarthCorps Homestay

Match Your Interests! EarthCorps is committed to finding the right match for our homestay families and international participants. Do you have a strong interest in a particular country, language or culture? Let us know!

2012 Anticipated International Participants

Aidos
From: Kazakhstan

“I have been working for a youth environmental NGO called Zhambyl Zhastary for five years. I have organized tree plantings, clean ups and have been teaching environmental education to Boy Scouts and school groups. I started as a volunteer and am now the manager of the volunteer program.

In Kazakhstan I live with my mom and I love to celebrate family holidays. I am very positive person and smile a lot. Also, I would like to describe myself as a person who respects people over age, and I am interested in cultures and traditions of other countries, and I am an independent person. Usually in my spare time I enjoy going to the gym. In warm weather I love to go on picnics and if it is possible I like to play games with my friends. On weekends I like to cook dinner for my family and when I have free time, I like to do volunteer work.”

Hailu
From: Ethiopia

“My name is Hailu (Hi-loo). I did my BSc in Applied Biology (Ecological and Environmental Science) at Jimma University Ambo College, Ethiopia and my MSc in Protected Area Management at Klagenfurt University, Austria. I have been working in two different Ethiopian National Parks since 2006 as a wildlife expert and park ranger. Since February 2011, I have been working with the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority in Alatish National Park as the park manager.

I come from a rural corner of Ethiopia from a family of farmers. I am comfortable with hard physical work and have spent much of my career in very remote settings. I am a kind, cheerful, open minded individual with strong moral values. In my spare time, I like to read books, listen to music, attend theaters, movies, travel, bicycle, go for walks in the park especially under an open sky with the moon and stars above.”

Qaisar
From: Pakistan

“I am a very friendly and supportive person who loves to meet and develop relationships with people from diversified backgrounds. Nature, forests and wildlife have always been my passion from my childhood. I love to photograph beautiful landscapes, which created in me the desire to work for environmental restoration. I had my first camera at the age of nine.

I am an artist and love to paint landscapes and nature. I am very good at graphic designing and design posters also for environmental protection. In my free time, I play cricket, listen music and go for hiking with my friends.

I respect other people’s right of having their own beliefs and opinion. I believe in hard work and never giving up.”

Virginie "Chris"
From: St. Lucia

“I am a 25 year old young man from the Island of St. Lucia located in the Caribbean. I am the steward of the island’s only herbarium, operated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands and Forest. I am trained in the collection, pressing and mounting of plant specimens. This work has increased my passion for the preservation of plants and birds endemic to the Caribbean.

I am a down to earth individual with a great love for making new friends and learning new cultures. I am a great conversationalist and can be depended upon to carry a group through. I love singing and being a part of volunteer groups and organizations. I love to exercise doing outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, bird watching, going to the beach and spending time with family and friends."

Jessa Belle
From: Philippines
“I am Jessa and I have been working with Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary for over a year. I completed by BS degree at Palawan State University in 2010, majoring in marine biology. In my current position, I conduct a variety of programs that promote the protection of the marine environment.

I love working with arts and crafts during my spare time. I also enjoy reading books and surfing the net as my way of keeping in touch with family and friends. I am always outdoors and being in the sun or in the water is truly a rewarding way to spend time. I love chatting with people and finding out about their life experiences. Coming from the Philippines, I am very family oriented and also very fond of children."
